The 18th ASEAN Food Conference in Davao City opened with a vibrant and memorable ceremony. The keynote address was delivered by Usec. Dr. Leah Buendia of the Department of Science and Technology–Office of the Undersecretary for Research and Development, who underscored the role of innovation and collaboration in building resilient food systems. This was followed by a special message from Prof. Samuel Godefroy, President of IUFoST, affirming global support for ASEAN’s scientific community.

The conference was officially declared open by AFC Chair Dr. Lotis Francisco. In a symbolic moment of unity, the traditional gong was struck by AFC Co-Chair Dr. Anthony Sales, AFC Vice-Chair Mr. Joshua del Rosario, together with all FIFSTA members, led by FIFSTA and PAFT President Ms. Julieta Austria, marking the start of the region’s premier scientific gathering on food science and technology.
